I am the classic knucklehead...

Here's the setup: Love to Q. Love to cook. Love it as a hobby at home. Hate my job. 22 years of public relations. Good money. Crummy job.

So... I have been daydreaming of a Q-shack of some type. Looking at the available storefronts in town. Thinking hard about Grumman step vans and doing a lunch trade. or maybe a Southern Pride on a trailer for a cater gig. Of course, I have no idea what I'm talking about... never worked in a restaurant in my life. But have thought through my little "dream" Q restaurant to the Nth degree.

I expect it's much harder work than I do now. And tough to make a buck. And -- worst fear of all -- concerned that after a few weeks I might start to hate Q and cooking... then I would really create a mess!

My family says "you're crazy." You know this story, I'm sure. Any ideas for this sorry specimen of a working man?? Roll Eyes

I have the same problem. In law enforcement for 15 years. REALLY hate my customers if you know what I mean. Haven't met a good one yet.LOL Have done a few small catering jobs an found out they are not as easy as one might think. alot of hard work and planning. I think catergreat would contest to that. Before going of the deep end, try a few small gigs. I have a 4th of July party every year in my back yard. Started out with 30 people, now up to 150. Last big gig I did was for 500 people. Was burgers and hot dogs, but still 500 people. Took just over an hour and 1/2 to cook all of that and serve. HOT and very long but for good cause and was not even paid for it. Was for the school I work at for the band and parents.

Have a party or two in your back yard to see if this is REALLY what you want. Worked for a new car dealership and I will tell you up front that the general public at times CAN AND WILL be a pain.

I do mostly custom smoking and making GOOD money for it. Taking 6 weeks vacation this year and will make MORE at this than my REAL job.LOL Good luck in what ever you do.
Howdy woodburner!

Sorry to have left ya on the back burner all week but I've been out of town and just getting caught up. I've left you some information under the post heading: "So ya wanna start a restaurant?"

It's pretty general information but if you have any questions I'll do my best to shine some light on 'em.
