So, had to wait for the PR machine to kick in, but this week I'm leaving to go to Dallas and compete against other teams in this Invitation Only contest.

If you live in/near Dallas come down Thursday afternoon and see me.

Check out the link for more info and specifics.

Basically the four OK Pitmasters listed compete against each other on Thursday and the winner of that goes against the Texas Winner on friday. Thursday is by a panel of Judges, Friday is about over 1,000 public that come to the event.

Should be a fun time, I'll be posting to FB and Twitter throughout the week.

Oh and it's a RIB ONLY contest Big Grin

Go SOONERS!

Thanks for the link (those are my ribs at the 1:30 point on the cutting board), that was the Saturday morning promo shoot that I got up at 5:00 am to cook ribs after going to sleep at 1:30 am...

We won the Oklahoma Division in the blind judging Thursday. We have a victory there also as we were the highest overall scoring team (all 8 teams, including TX) by more than almost 20 points.

The TX team won the overall, but only by 11 votes. Hard to beat a local team in their backyard as the voting was open to the public.

Fun time, lot of work, I'll get some photos uploaded later this week.

Thursday was truly blind judging, we had 15 min turnin windows and were judged by some pros (Chefs, Food Critics/Writers).

Friday was "blind" judging as the public only had to choose from A or B... but it seemed to be the worst kept secret in town, people came up and told us which one was ours and which was theirs. It's only the 2nd year for the event. We'll be invited back next year as the Defending Oklahoma Champs, guess I'll need to set up free food to get the forum guys to come along Wink

I figured you might have had the odds stacked against you to some degree. Any local that saw that news clip would be able to easily identify the TX ribs after hearing the reporter state that they were "Smokier". Then, word spreads.

Anyway, you had a good run, and you return next year. Plus, OU won their part of the rivalry. Heck, having a couple decent sized wagers on OU, I even won. With a line favoring OU by 3 and an O/U of 61, it was too good to pass up.

Congrats again.
I know I was up against the Texas Smoke Eaters (those people in TX like oversmoked) but that wasn't why we lost. Plenty of people came out and said they didn't like the oversmoked stuff in the other entry because they couldn't taste any of the meat, just smoke. In the end we lost because we didn't get enough votes Wink

but the judges liked us a lot, beat the winner team by almost 20 points in blind judging, so that tells me something.

But a GREAT time.
