I have had a 009 for about 4 years now and think it is the perfect butt smoker.I usually cook 4x 6lbs butts at a time. Now I need something larger for full slabs of ribs and untrimmed briskets. I would love a Fec-100 but being this is only for family and friends (no comps or catering), the $$ of the Fec is too much for me.
I wonder since they updated the smokette from 14x14 to 14x18, if the Amerique is also gonna get a size increase? Maybe like 16x21 or 14x22. I have seen some Amerique pics with ribs and briskets hitting the sides. I think $2000 would be a great price for the customer that needs the extra width of a fec but cannot afford it. I would even love for it to have the old dial type instead of the new digital. I wonder what is in the works over there at cookshack? any rumors?

My gut feeling is that all you will get here is speculation & opinions.

CS doesn't regularly monitor the forum.

The best way to find the answer to your question is to call CS Customer Service at 1-800-423-0698. And even then, if it's in the planning process you will probably get no confirmation. But "hey,!" it's worth a shot.

Good luck! Wink
Smoked-out:

I have an AmeriQue and have cooked 12-1/2# to 14# full packers and they fit nicely and have not had to fold it at all. I also cook a lot of baby back ribs and never had a problem with full slabs. I sometimes do them sitting in a rib rack, other times I hang them on the rib hooks. When sitting in the racks sometimes some slabs will be barely on the sides of the smoker, but as they shrink with cooking it has never been a problem. I am quite happy with the AQ.
I've had my Amerique for ten months now and as far as large pieces, I have smoked a 19 pound packer Brisket and a 28 pound whole Fresh Ham with great results! Eight racks of St. Louis Spare Ribs (no racks or hooks, and more chicken quarters than the neighborhood could eat!

I don't know what upgrades you could do to the Amerique other than making a 75 pound model, but then you might as well get a FEC 100.
With upgrades I was meaning larger.

Smokette is 3.5 sq ft.
Super Smoke 5.25 sq ft.
Amerique is 7 sq ft.
Fec 100 is 11 sq ft.

There is a gap of 4 sq ft between the Amerique and the Fec 100 with a price gap of $2000

Maybe we could see a 9 sq ft. model in the $2000-$2300 that could fill the gap! Maybe even a Fec- 50!!!
Hi, i really think the amerique is the right one for you. i can't think of needing more room for the home application . i just did 4 brisket and still had two shelves left. this unit make a lot of meat. also my opinion is that if they made a fec 50 it would be a pellet style. i wouldn't buy a pellet style unless i compitition smoking . the electrics are so easy and you get awesome results without the hassel of pellets. here is a picture of 4 9 pound pb i smoked.

The FEC-100 is a totally different type of cooker than the other three and in my opinion should not be considered on its size only.

If one wants to cook with pellets it is the way to go!

While it is huge in comparison to the Smokette I once had it is a joy to own and operate. It is as happy with a rack of ribs or a yard bird in it as it might be if totally full.

Sure it might be nice to see a FEC-50 but I'm thinking that the market is way too small for that. But do drop Cookshack a note.
Beside the technical differences between the electrics & pellets, How different of a product will a fec turn out than an amerique? Will meats have a different texture coming out?

I have cooked pork butt for 50 people on about 10 different party's (family reunions, 4th July, a rehearsal dinner). While the 009 does everything I want in making 15-20lbs of pulled pork, I want to maybe be able to 2-3 full packers and 6-10 ribs at the same time. (I have a family reunion in May with ribs, brisket, and pulled pork. I am starting to think a AmQ might be the way to go but just wish it was wider for some reason.. I guess I got a bad case of pellet envy!
hi, layed left to right on the gills you can get two packers briskets on each shelf. i did own two fec 100's and i think the extra room was nice but you didnt get a ton more room . i will put my amerique up against any pellet grill and i beleive you will not notice the difference. i just won a contest at a cook off we had had at church with the Amq. don't get me wrong if i had the money i would take the fec 100 just for the room inside but i dont think you are giving up any taste. just keep in mine that smoke only penitrates the meat for about the first 6 hours and then it won't take anymore smoke. besides if you get an amerique it come with the built in probe which is excellent. then again if you have the $3600 laying around i would get the fec 100. . i hope this helps. greg
I have been wanting something quite larger than my 009 that I am outgrowing. I really do not want a Fec-100 since it will run me $6-$10 per cook on pellets where a electric unit will cost about $1 to run. I would love to have shelves the size of a SmartSmoker Oven SM250, but maybe with only 4 shelves and in the $2000-2500 range.

Are the commercials so much more because they are meant to be ran 24/7 and are approved to USDA standards?
