I am now cooking on a log burner. I do love the taste of butts on my smoker, but I am so close to ordering an FEC100. I'm tired of tending fires. It sounds like a great smoker, and I am tired of all the time it takes me to cook on my log burner, plus, I do like to get some sleep. Can I get a good, smoke flavored product with an FEC100? I have never used a pellet cooker before, but you guys sound so positive about your smokers. Should I become a pellethead?

Based on a couple points in your post, my answer is "yes" and "no." I don't personally think a pellet cooker will ever duplicate the smoke of a stick burner. However, I don't think that is a bad thing. Most people over smoke the meat anyway. You would have to make that call yourself, and by that time, it would be too late, you'd own one. As for sleep, I put meat on mine, get eight hours sleep, and check it in the morning. Never slept better.

If you didn't make ongoing comparisons of the product that comes off of the stick burner and pellet cooker, you'd get used to the somewhat lighter smoke. Overall, I've yet to meet anyone who didn't love their FE and wonder why they didn't do it sooner.
