I'm finally ready to buy a smoker, But I don't have room to store it inside, and was wondering how well a smoker holds up, if it is kept outdoors. I'd probably build a little cedar shelter over the top of it. Also, I was wondering what the heating element and chip tray arragment looks like, I can't find any close up photos.

My smokette has sat outside for 3 years? It is on a covered deck so it doesn't get rain or snow on it. Looks fine. I don't have any pictures but the heating element looks like the one in the bottom of your stove. There is a long metal box that slides over the element. The box opens and you put your chips in it.

I used to only use it once in a while. But as of late I've really gotten into it. I've spent a lot of time reading posts here which has helped a bunch. I've been turning out some fantastic ribs.
Dave - You really ought to use your smoker more. Then it would get that "used" look like mine does. lol I havent seen mine as clean as yours since 2 days after I got it. I do remove all foil after each cook, and wipe down the racks, but not scraping the sides and such. I guess now I have to go home and clean mine out real good too. Smiler

Bob
SandRaven,

Don't know where you live but my Smokette with black sides was under an awning 100 yards from the beach in Central Florida for 3 years and now another 3 years outdoors 3 miles inland from the beach.

Only rust is around the latch where it gets rubbed from the handle. Everything rusts and corrodes down here so I'm very impressed my CS doesn't.

Use the cover, though...

lol Bob - the first picture was taken right after the initial seasoning. Take a closer look at the 2nd picture - taken last month!
mainelydave,
I just thought you must have used a whole lot of wood in your first cook, lol!
I have the SM150. The firebox and all looks just the same. Mine is pretty dark too. I have mine inside the trailer, so haven't noticed any rust yet, but in Florida even the cooks rust!
