The price you were given is the price on the older models for the last couple of years.

I believe that is what Eddy is still quoting ,also.

It would be ideal for the cold, wind,or extreme heat.

The Traeger that this is built onto typically has very thin metal and loose fitting parts.

The Cookshack cabinet gives it that 1000 insulation and tight fit.

Hope this helps a little.
I'm not sure where you heard $1,000, but if you called CS and they quoted $2695, then that's the price.

Ah, the question of "is it worth it?" You'll have to define that a bit more.

The unit will work fine in a cold climate as CS has added the cabinet design (more insulation) that they use in CS's.

A lot of people are happy with a Weber Bullet for $150 and think $400 for a CS is too much. You can also find a lot of smokers from $500 to $5000 and up so it really depends on your situation and finances.
