I recently sold my old Smokette and planned to buy an Amerique when the father's day sale starts. I went to a local Dallas area CS dealer and discovered they quit selling CS. I was told that they experienced too many problems with the electronic controls so they started selling another brand. Has anyone had problemms with erratic electronic controls?

I'll call BS on this one. I've NEVER heard that before and the controls are new, they're the same basic electronics that CS has used in the Commercial CS (just basic programming changes).

Maybe they had issues, but it didn't surface in the forum at all.

You can also just read through the forum. About the only electronics issue I've heard is the FEC LCD not showing when it's below zero (there there is a way to do it)
Like Smokin' says, about the same "workhorse"electronics.

The old 106 s,and then CS 160 s are in countless
commercial restaurant operations.

I think mine is a 1996 model, and I run into those that are a decade older and run around the clock.

I'm thinking the team has maybe five different series FEC s,and our mentor had a custom oversized Pellet muncher even older.

They have been beat up all over the country, and been in the lousiest conditions-and never a problem.

Suppose that "peddler" could be like others, that find a cheaper product line, and used whatever line the unknowing customer might bite on? Naw Roll Eyes
Search around the forum for the problem. People here are pretty open and honest. If there were a problem with controls, you would find it in the search. I have not seen much of anything about controls. Not sure why the dealer would say that, but it doesn't sound quite right.

Did you call the dealer listed on the cookshack website?
john g,

May I ask what brand they are now handling?

I'm sure that with this open forum, there would have been a long thread on "the electronic problems" if there had been an issue.

I have an cs020 which is not very old, but I have used it in 10" snow storms, -12* weather, and in the rain( with only little covering). NO PROBLEMS with the electronics.
I bought a SM025 in January 2010 and have had intermittent problems with the electronic controls. The controls will not adjust the temperature, will not respond to up or down adjustment. I have tried plugging in or removing the temp probe, turning the unit on and off, unplugging the unit, etc. This has happened with Tech Support on the phone with me and it finally started working. The last time they suggested maybe the board wasn't screwed down tight. I checked later and it was O.K. It is very intermittent and doesn't seem to depend on outside temp(hard to fix if it's working).
I have NOT requested a replacement but they assured me that it will be covered by warranty. Happened again this weekend so I will call Monday for a new board. They tell me that there are very few problems with the electronics. I know if it's mechanical or electronic it can and probably will break, it's the Customer Service that counts!!!

Then please call CS Customer Service and discuss it with them. I notice it's your first post, just want you to know CS doesn't monitor the forum (I don't work for CS) and they want to resolve ALL issues with your personally.

Give them a call, they'll help you.
I went to the dealer that was listed on the CS site. They no lonfger sell CS. I suspect that they had any number of ressons for changing brands, but I am sure that short-term per unit profit was the determining factor. Apparently CS does not regularly update their list of dealers since the Dallas dealer is still listed.

Thanks for your input as well as that of everone else.

Tim,

Had the exact same problem back in January. I did get a replacement and it did the same thing. I think what was happening may have been me. It seems if you plug it in and immediately start pushing the up or down arrows it freaks out the controller. I started waiting about 20 seconds or so before touching anything and haven't had a problem since. You may have already tried this but thought I would mention it.
