Getting a smoke ring

If you want a smoke ring, get a stick burner or an FEC.

But seriously, the electrics can't really produce a smoke ring since the wood doesn't burn, it smolders. Some people have tried to add charcoal briquettes with mixed results. But a smoke ring only makes things look pretty. It doesn't do anything to enhance flavor.

When I had my SM020, I initially tried to get a smoke ring, but gave up. Now that I have an FEC and can produce one, I could really care less if I get one or not.

Use the find feature on this site to get more info. Mainly you can add a briquette into woodbox an also ad more raw sugar to rub.

Forget about the smoke ring and enjoy your meal

I guess if you REALLY want a smoke ring, sprinkle some Tender Quick all over the brisket, let sit for about 10 minutes, then rinse it off. You'll get a nice "smoke ring".

You can even use your oven if you so desire. Won't get any smoke flavor, but you'll still get the ring.
