Hello folks!

I'll be in Plano, TX in a few weeks and I'm looking for a good BBQ joint. Being as I am fond of Carolinas BBQ I thought I'd flirt with the enemy Wink while I was out there.

I'm looking for good food, but also good ambiance and a decent bar to entertain some business partners for the evening.

Any suggestions?

Howdy Robbi,
In Dallas if you aren't good, you don't survive. There's a lot of good bbq joints. Try Sonny Bryan's Smokehouse on N. Saint Paul Street. Rudys is good but I am partial to Sonnys! Really, I have the best. Oh, by the way. Give them a call when you get into Dallas and they will give you directions. 214-978-0102. Good 'que' and nice folks.

Well, call me different, but I didn't like the sauce at Rudy's. LOVE the store, really neat concept.

I'll defer to the locals on recommendations.

Robbi,

Go into Rudy's and you can tell them "I've never had....xxx" and they'll let you try a sample. The food comes out on butcher paper.

Sonny's to me has a reputation (like Arthur's in KC) that doesn't always serve up great. Like all restaurants, it's a timing thing, sometimes the stuff is good and sometimes...

For me, I'm trying to remember the name of the BBQ Chain that took the Hooters concept and combined it with BBQ (they have one in Dallas and Austin). They also have a Caribbean chain. Food's average but the Scenary is spectacular.
This thread go me thinking of Rudys, so I took the family there last night... I really love the brisket there. I don't like the sausage. I can see how some may not like the sauce, very spicy. All in all, Rudys is my favorite brisket place, to the point, I'm wondering if I have any business spending $1500 on the Amerique I've been waiting for all year... Rudy's is only 15 minutes away...

I didn't like the BoneDaddys in Austin, I went there just after they opened though, maybe they were still working things out.

Next time I'm in the metro plex, I'll have to look up Sonnys, or Clarks outpost.

Barry
