Have my 008 for years and never experienced this before... I opened the door and saw a disgusting sight... a "puddle" of greenish - gray "gook" on top of my brisket.

The wood is definitely seasoned. I also let my wood smoke a bit before putting in the meat so that I see WHITE smoke coming out. If it isn't a nice clean looking smoke, I pull the wood and start again.

The 008 looks fairly clean, as I scrape it down every so often.

Any thoughts?

Was the puddle right in the middle directly under the vent hole? If so it's probably condensate that build up in the vent, softened some gook in the vent and dripped down. This has been a known problem and the way to prevent it is to keep the vent hole clean by brushing it out periodically.

Yup,

Haven't seen it in a while, it's seems to be in certain weather conditions.

Clean the vent hole throughly, they make a "pipe cleaner" for copper pipes that's the right size.

Not everyone needs to do this, just seems to be certain location, based on humidity, not what you're cooking or how
