past two weeks i have been practicing with my fec100. if i follow the directions and let it run 10 mins and then turn off and turn back on i will temp spike at around 350.
my thinking is this weekends practice i will only let it go 5 mins or until my fat fingers feel the 1st pellet in the burn chamber and then turn off and turn back on.
in every case i had my heat dial set to smoke but i think maybe for my unit the 10 min time shown in the book might be too long.
but on the plus side i never have encountered the flame out gremlins of a new unit that i have read that others have
thanks for your help

Watch out for the igniter. You could end up burned fat fingers. I don't have a book, but I thought it was 3 minutes. It was my understanding that the igniter quits at the end of the four minute start cycle so you recycle to have it going when the pellets arrive.

I know the feeling of looking at my retirement money in the rear veiw mirror. At least we can see were our money went.
Jack,
I too live in Florida, and I STRONGLY recommend you burn all your pellets out of the feed tube auger before even a few days storage. The humid conditions in FL ar a lot higher here than in other parts of the country. Take it from someone who has had "pellet-crete" in the auger, and spent several hours fixing that nasty situation - empty the hopper, run the auger until the pellets are all Burn/used up and start with new every time.
nocents,
the total burnout of pellets from the hopper is what i have been doing thanks to ocalla bill's advice.
what i think i will do saturday is try the 3 min rather than 10 min shown in the book.
at any rate the unit is ready for minneola which will not only be our first contest but our first long tow.
thanks for confirming the humidity thing
jack
