I first wanted to say a quick hello to all fellow FEC'ers. I've owned mine for over a year now and I am overjoyed, to say the least, by my conversion. Twice the flavor with less than half the work. And it's nice, with the addition of a few kids into the family, to actually be able to sleep through those long dark hours of the BBQ night where before I was sweating temps.
I would like to say my FEC 100's performance has been flawless--and indeed it has. For the most part. However, the last few time I've cooked, I've noticed that the temp on the readout will disappear, reappear saying something like "80," then jump up to 190 or so when the smoker reaches that temp. This occurs after I turn it on, let some pellets feed into the fiebox, turn it off, then start it again to ignite them. At first I thought, "Whoa, boy! Gonna have a problem here..." but then the cook session went alright. I don't place much stock into the readout, but if some of the more mechanically-minded could reassure me, I'd feel better. I was actually quite surprised by the little glitch, but had seen others mention it before in other posts. I don't think I have the new controller I've seen others rave about, so I'm wondering if I should upgrade to it, anyway.
Opinions are most welcome.
Otherwise, I was going to hit y'all up with some other questions about competing, but wasn't sure if this was the right forum for that.
Thanks and it's good to be here.
