I ran across a smoked turkey recipe that many of you may be interested in for this week. I haven't tried it, but I know that is a popular recipe request for this time of year.

The recipe is highly rated by those who tried it, and is a bit unique because it sounds like you fill the turkey with cola, apples, onion and other things.

BTW, for those of you looking for new recipes in general (not necessarily recipes for smoked foods), I recommend this www.allrecipes.com site, especially the "top ten rated" recipes for each section. It's kind of a unique recipe Web site because people try the recipes and then rate them and add their comments.

I find reading each recipe's reviews to be really helpful in deciding whether its worth trying to make, as well as finding interesting variations to the recipe that people have tried.

You can read the reviews of the turkey recipe above by going to that page and clicking on "Read Reviews" in the top right corner of that Web page.

If anyone tries this recipe, let us know how it turns out!

Always appreciate new ideas. There are versions of the CocaCola bird out there.

Note one thing about his receipe that I do not necessarily agree with, since some of us are particular about temps:

quote:
Smoke at 225 to 250 degrees F (110 to 120 degrees C) for 10 hours, or until internal temperature reaches 180 degrees F (80 degrees C) when measured in the thickest part of the thigh. Baste the bird every 1 to 2 hours with the juices from the bottom of the roasting pan.
Dark meat will be fine if you pull it 10 degrees sooner at 170 as it will continue to rise until you serve it. But hey, just my 2 cents.

But just my opinion as the Head Turkey!
