How often should a smoker be cleaned? My wife makes me clean it after every use.

Do you have to clean them?
I wipe out the inside after every use, but I don't clean it. I just wipe out the drippings from the cook with a paper towel. I do clean my racks after each use.
After a year or so, I scraped down all the interior surfaces with a plastic putty knife. They were getting so caked that flakes were peeling off once in a while. Also throw the side rack holders in the dishwasher every so often.
