Hi Guys,
Perhaps you read my recent post about replacing the igniter probe in my fec100. First of all, I called Cookshack and talked to Tony, a very nice guy who told me right away that the reason the fec was blowing fuses was probably the fault of a bad igniter probe, and that he would get me one in the mail right away, which he did. The new probe arrived quickly, and I thought of how much trouble it would be for a "regular" guy like me to replace the old one. I decided to give it a try after some advice from Smokin' Okie and some others from the forum. It was a piece of cake!
If you ever have to replace one, and are unsure what to do, e-mail me and I will tell you step by step how to do it. You need a 1/4 in. socket, a Phillips screwdriver, a small allen wrench set, some wire snippers, and a piece of electrical tape. The whole job can be completed in about 20 min., including firing the unit up to see if it works. You don't need to dread this repair if it ever happens to you. I just thought I'd pass this along. I've got steaks on as I write this. For financial reasons, I still may have to sell this one, but I will have another one. It's a piece of work...

Here is the way I did it. I took the panel off to expose the wiring. My smoker is one year old and is auger driven. It has no chute. I disconnected the coupling for the purple wire that comes off of the control board. The coupling just pulls apart. The purple wire is for the igniter. There are two white wires that run through the auger channel to the igniter. I snipped them off from the plastic connector. There is a new connector that comes with the new igniter. The fire-pot is held into place with 4 1/4 inch hex head screws. I took those out and pulled the fire-pot out of the auger channel. The igniter probe is inserted into the bottom of the fire-pot, and held into place by a small set screw. I'm really not sure what size the set screw is. I took the probe out and snipped the two white wires off. I taped the two wires from the new probe to the wires from the old probe and simple pulled the new wires back through the auger channel to the connector that I had disconnected earlier at the wiring harness. The new wires have two metal ends that are to be inserted into the new plastic coupler that is furnished with the new probe. Look at the old coupler to see which end the two white wires go into, and push them in until you hear a click. Place the new probe in the bottom of the fire-pot. Push it in about as far as the old one was and tighten the set screw. Put the fire-pot back into position and put the 4 screws back in. Put the panel back on to cover up the wiring, and fire it up. You're done. It's very easy.
