Hey guys, doing my first smoke in my model 50. Have the ET-73 doing its first run as well. What I'm finding is that the receiver unit isnt changing temps when the transmitter does. Maybe every 10 min or so the receiver will change the temp it displays. I'm maybe 25 ft max from the smoker to where the receiver is sitting. As well, I was noticing if I move my receiver, like shake it around a bit or something, that in a few sec, the display will change. Also, this AM, when i got up, went and checked the receiver, both the temps were showing ----, again, I picked up the receiver, kinda moved/shook it around gently, and then all of a sudden the display shows up.

I'm thinking this is kind of weird, why doesnt the display on the receiver change as soon as the display on the transmitter does? Or is it some kind of powersave feature? Just wondering if anyone else is having the same results? Can't find any mention of anything about this in the users manual. Thanks for your thoughts and help!

The display on the receiver doesn't change when the sender changes because the sender doesn't actually send until the receiver requests it to do so. The receiver polls the sender on a periodic basis and unless it can make a good connection nothing will happen. The reason for this is it conserves the batteries.

The biggest problem with the Maverick is that it's signal can be interrupted by any device such as a cell phone, cordless phone, router etc. that is operating on the same or a near frequency as that of the Maverick and it will either prevent it from updating or knock it out of commission entirely. Mine gets knocked off line frequently and I have to go outside and reset it. This makes it virtually useless as a remote device. I'm sorry I ever bought it.
My experience with the ET73 has been mostly good also. Yes, the signal strength has sometimes been an issue, but I have learned to work around that and make good use from it. My big use is to monitor the temp in the temp at night when I have a load of butts in there and want to get some sleep. I will set the high and low alarm to wake me if there is ever a problem. Never has been a problem but I don't want to tempt fate.
Thanks guys, have contacted Maverick and will await their reply. As well, looking on another forum, quite lengthy discussion about the antenna missing in the receiver unit, and how to solder on an antenna. I might give that a try too, I opened my unit and I dont see a visible antenna wire either.
