Second year event, $25K in prizes and over 70 teams this year (talked to them today and they're at 65).

With the new trailer, we're going farther.

So, let's see, how's a boy from Oklahoma going to do in the Memphis area. New question for me to have to think about, but we all discuss it.

Do you or Don't you adjust for regional tastes?

What to do in Memphis?

Appreciate any thoughts.

Any of you in the area, let me know if you're coming buy and I'll buy more beer. I also have a new batch of "apple pie" to drink.

Bring extra beer. I'll be there...Don't change anything about your food. I went to Hammond thinking the BBQ surely need to be spicier, only to find out after the contest that not a single judge was from Louisianna. Cooked Ashland,MS and a sugar coated brisket won. The sugar addiction is nation wide.
Will be good to meet you and see your setup! I did not realize this contest was/got so big. I'm pretty sure it is a new event. Not affiliated with Memphis in May, but rather Kansas City event......So I think

I'll be there checking it all out. There is a very good chance my wife will be in on the judging. I'll ask again. Like I said. Didn't realize the number of teams and the prize money.

What events will you be competing in?

Bill
Looked it up a bit closer...Is your rig a cookshack? Noticed that electric is not allowed.

Will I have any trouble figuring out which one is you??

This is sounding so good, I believe a Butt is in order for my little 008 this weekend!

Some great ribs can be had downtown on Beale street here in Memphis. Noticed one of the best (been featured on Food Network) uses a Cookshack! Looked a bit like one and after further review, sure was....Great ribs. (The wet kind) Ongoing Memphis argument. Wet or Dry

We're just doing the KCBS 4 entries on Saturday, skipping the "ice cream" event.

Nope, I'll be easy to spot. The smokers are legal, they're the Pellet cookers, the FE 100's. Here they are on the back ramp:

Big white trailer with "smokin okies" on the front, hard to miss now:

Drop on by!

Well it "seems" to pull the trailer pretty well and I got such a GREAT deal on it. A 2500 would probably pull it easier, but since I'm not pulled that many trailers.

We'll see on this trip, 500 miles to Memphis. But I left enough room in the trailer to bring back some trophies Smiler
Russ, just a heads up on driving I40 around Memphis...stay in the left hand lane. You'll think you're thru all the mess, then with very short notice there's a ramp on the left side that you must take! Otherwise you're going to Jackson, MS.

And the highway's worse heading west...I know, I drove it last Monday. That sharp turn to Little Rock is why I have a 2500.

See you!

I think you were coming in on Friday. Try to avoid rush hour. On Tuesday a truck smacked a bridge in town on 40, just east of the exit you'll be taking. Has the hwy down to 2 lanes there, but it's backing up during rush hours. (This in addition to Candy Sues comments!)

Major damage, but "hopefully" it will be a non issue on the 9th. Still gets hectic going through town, especially hauling that trailer.
