Model 55 blowing fuses

My Model 55 is blowing my house fuse just at the moment I plug it in..Could it be a bad element or a bad cord?? never happened before but I have had issues with two bad temperature control (rheostats?) in the past but when replaced it was working fine

blowing a fuse or tripping a GFCI?

That latter is the most comon as I've never heard of it blowing or tripping a normal/regular circuit breaker.

It's usually a grounding issue caused by the heating element.

My 008 is tripping the gfci. heating element shows 28.5 ohms. There is corrosion at the ground screw. Could that be it?

A tripping GFCI is usually related to a grounding problem, so it sounds logical to me.
