Hi.

I make CD's to play outside where we are working. I have 4 or 5 now, but I would like to make some more. We have a cowboy theme going, so ... do you have some song suggestions for me. I have the real obvious ones, Home on the range, Don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys, etc. but like I said I could use some fresh ideas. I even have the old western TV show themes, well some of them.

Thanks for any suggestions. My favorites are the funny songs! Smiler

Smiler Hello Katelesley, I have a bluegrass music theme and for some time used a system similar to that you must be using. The problem was I got tired of the same CDs and tired of having to change them. So I went to Walmart and bought a closeout XM satelite boombox which came with builtin antenna and household power adapter for $40. Then on ebay I sniped an Autiofox XM reciever for $20 including postage. I now have unlimited bluegrass music access for $12 a month. Recently did a gig where power was not available. Just used the battery setup in the boom box. Plenty of volume and no more changing or looking for new CDs. Perhaps this will give you an alternative for your theme music program. Good luck. Keep stokin and smokin.
Hi!

Alrighty then! I just purchased a bunch of Marty Robbins off of iTunes. El Paso ! Big Iron ! and more ! Thank you. Great tunes, didn't have those.

It is funny how you know all these songs, but you forget them until someone reminds you. Sometimes I spend into the wee hours of the morning searching for new songs to play.

Hawsfli .. that sounds like an idea I need to look into. Is there actually a channel that plays old time cowboy music? I get Sirrus on my Dish TV, but they have no cowboy music.

Thank you both for the songs and ideas.

Any more songs out there? Smiler I could go for BBQ songs too! Food ... Pigs ... Cows ? Smiler

Thanks Kate

Check out Asleep at the Wheel for western swing. They do a number of novelty songs that are a part of the genre. For the real thing, checkout Bob Wills and his Country Playboys. Also, you might look for the Sons of the Pioneers; oldies, like Ghost Riders, Cool Water, etc.

I made a compilation CD that we played at a Texas BBQ party I threw in Colorado a couple years ago. Everyone enjoyed the music, and the Q! I downloaded most of the music from the various music-for-sale services.
Zeetweed ... Thank you! Great songs! I have hit paydirt here on the forum! I thought I would.

We get lots of complements on our music. Vendors ask us to turn it up ... everyone loves the cowboy music. Guess it reminds us all of when we were kids and played cowboys!

Thanks again! I will keep adding more songs, so if anyone has anymore suggestions I welcome them!

Kate
these go back aways but i think you should find a download. don't do too much of that myself.
new riders of the purple sage-panama red
bellamy brothers-old hippy
quicksilver messenger service- 2 of those,
bears (peg's fav) and shady grove (my fav). opps make it 3 with happy trails to you. this one may be a little out there but the over 50 crowd will recognize it.
jerry jeff walker-come away to belize with me and a gringo in belize.
jimmy buffett- god's own drunk (pretty funny a teetotaler is guarding a still and the bear runs off with it)
commander cody and the lost planet airmen-heck anything by them is good especially the live cut of "hot rod licoln" and "momma hated diesels so bad" heck crying in my beer right now and it aint even on(crying is caused by laffing too hard)
lotta the above came out of the late 60's early 70's era so you may wanna preview them. no cuss words or anything.
and by the way marty robbins rules!!!!! saw him race at daytona with my father in law, myself i hate taxicabs but my father in law loved them so much it was just a good time being with him!!!
hope it helps.

Kate, Obviously PrisonChef Jack is just a young whippersnapper. Smiler Wait 'til you get a load of this list. I'm really givin' away my age now, but what the heck, I probably blew it already with the Marty Robbins thing. So, here goes:

SELECTION ----------------------- ORIGINAL ARTIST
Ghost Riders In The Sky --------- Vaughn Monroe
Mule Train ---------------------- Frankie lane
Tumblin' Tumbleweed -------------- Sons of the Pioneers
Cool Water ---------------------- Sons of the Pioneers
Wayward Wind -------------------- Gogi Grant

These tunes have been recorded by others but these were all the original artists. They were recorded in the 40s and 50s.
Dang I'm gettin' old.
Hi!

Okay you guys, age has nothing to do with the music you know and enjoy. I can't guage your age by the music. I listen to stuff that is old old old, wasn't around when it came out, still, I love it. We are as young as ... well, we aren't old!

Anything Jimmy Buffet is GREAT! Very little Buffett I don't have, back to High Cumberland Gap etc. Love God's Own Drunk, think I'll take a slash! Jimmy used to like to sit out on the dock in Tortola, just chillin. Smiler No, I don't know him personally! Wish I did!

I DL-ed Hot Rod Lincoln by Asleep at the Wheel last night. It was hard to decide which version and artist to go with ... they are all good.

Asleep at the Wheel is awesome by the way.

Shady Grove! Excellent! Just bought it!

Have to go check out the others. Have to hunt them down! Thank you!

I have Ghost Riders. I also have Mule Train by Box Car Willie. Tumblin Tumbleweed I have by Moe Bandy. Just bought Cool water and wayward wind. Great additions! Thanks! Sons of the Pioneers are Great!

Some of those originals are hard to find!

Thank you so much! More?

Great tunes.

Hi Rob, Thank you!

Sounds great! I am checking with my Mac Guru (son in Maui runs tech support for me) as to how I do this and what I have to do to make it work best for me. I am pretty sure I can put the mp3's into my itunes and then burn them. I have dled some freebies from the net and added them to itunes.

I like different artists and versions of the same songs, makes em completely different!

Thank you again ! I will email you!

Kate
Kate, if you want to get lots of ideas for songs you might want to check out the TimeLife.com website. They sell all those CD collections on TV and on their site you can pull up just the country collections and they will list all the songs in each album - tons to choose from. Then all you have to do is figure out where to get just the ones you want. Good luck with your music hunting.

Mudgie
Thanks Mudgie! I will give it a look see. Good suggestion.

I just burned 80 new songs on cd's. The majority of them came from suggestions here on the forum. I found Cielito Lindo while looking at songs suggested. I yi yi yi ! Smiler

Still looking for more ! Smiler It is a never ending quest. We have tables for our customers and they love to listen to the music while they eat !

Thanks everyone!

Kate

Hi Jack.

I am getting suspicions about you! Smiler

Peggy is right on this one. You are gonna have to pull over and take a rest!

Patrick used to tell me how he would haul pigs in Milwaukee way back when. I took it very literally. I always wondered why he was hauling pigs around a city. Duh! One day it came up and I asked ... Now I know the rest of the story! Smiler

Thanks ... I will look Red up.

Kate
Fast Freddie,

Great site and I love the music! It reminded me of the Love Shack in St. Thomas! They used to play the song when serving Volcanos and then the lights would go way down and the volcano would erupt. At least that is how I remember it ... it was a bar mainly ... guess that explains my fuzzy memory Smiler

Thanks for the link!

Kate
