I don't know if you will find the newer to be "better",although there may be a size adjustment, new therm, etc.

If no one chimes in,call sales and ask them what is the difference,or changes.

Think about if the change is something that makes a big difference in your daily life.

Ask them, what will it do to help you.

They are honest and very knowledgable.

They live where they build them and they all cook on them.

They aren't just an order taker, somewhere on a computer screen. Eeker

I'd guess it won't cook "better',or produce a different product.

Just my $0.02
I had an old 55, sold it to a buddy and bought the new model. So I've had both.

Here's my assessment. New model, wider so it's helpful since you can cook full slabs of ribs without hanging them to cook.

New model, included probe is nice, but not worth the extra money. You can go to Bed, Bath and Beyond and buy a great remote thermo and be just as effective, I use mine more than I use the one on the unit.

Newer model is harder to clean, the electric unit is too low to the bottom, hard to clean under.

New model, better than old, higher cooking temp, 300 vs. 250.

Old model, didn't have to worry about rain as much, since electronics were internal.

Old model, easier to clean (see earlier comments).

Old model, as much room, just not configured as well, for ribs at least.

Bottom line, I'd save the money and go with the old.

But you can't go wrong. Both put out great BBQ. It's really a matter of what you want.
