Going to buy a new smoker in 2005 and have decided to either get a FE 100 or Ole Hickory Tri Oven Convecture. Leaning towards the FE because it's 2 thousand dollars cheaper, but worry about pellet availability. Live in a small town 40 miles northwest of Austin Tx on Lake Travis. Go to Austin 2 times a week and I've never seen pellets for sale anywhere. We have the usual places like BBQ Galore's, another place called BBQ Outfitters, and all kinds of home and garden joints. I've yet to see any pellets for sale. I've asked too. Everyone down here cooks on stick burners in the backyard like I do now. Don't want to have to depend on mail order for BBQ wood.

Thanks Tom. I think I found a place that's going to start carrying Traeger Pellets in April when they move into their new location.

That price difference between the FE 100 and Tri Oven really had me leaning towards the pellet smoker. But if you can't find fuel close to home, it might be more hassle than it's worth. Hopefully these folks will follow through.

thanks!
ok sorry i wasnt clear
i order pellets from bbq'ers delight
2 #20 bags 39.95 last invoice
great people to deal with
but more importantly their pellets let me hold 145-165 on smoke setting and then go to 475 plus on max heat
but you will have to experiment to find the pellets that match your cooking style
