A friend of mine is chopping down a persimmon tree, and offered it to me for smoking. I read somewhere that you can use it for smoking. My questions is what does it compare to?

Sand, do a google search, persimmon wood smoke. Sounds like it might be like apple. As I recall, it's a dense, white wood. No sap problems that I remember, and I've whacked a lot of it. We have a wild persimmon here that invades the pastures if you sleep too late. Good luck.

Persimmons are soft like peaches. The wood should be similar to peach wood or plum wood I'd think. I'm sure you could smoke with it.
