Hello Everyone. I am new to this site and really enjoy reading the posts, yet not as much as I enjoy good BBQ. I currently have an electric water smoker and am not really happy with the process of smoking with it. I am considering a smokette, but I live in an apartment and need to solve a few issues. 1st) How might a person vent the smoker to the outdoors, esp. in the wintertime? My apartment has a hood over the stove but it doesn't vent outside. I did a search for venting and read the posts but nothing mentioned really related to my situation. If it's not really feasable to use indoors of an apartment could a person use the smokette in the winter OUTDOORS and have it work efficiently enough to BBQ in a timely manner? 2nd) If I must always use the smokette outdoors, is there a restriction on the length or gauge of extention cord that should be used to power the unit? We did discuss this before at length. There is an article in the Archives, April 14th, titled: Smokette in an Apartment. I found it by searching on "apartment."

Smokette in an Apartment -- original post

It's in the Archives at the bottom of the main page, in "Forum Archives" the posts are listed Alphabetically, and depending on your browser view, you may have more than one page of posts. Look for a number on the right side that will indicate more than one page.

Good Luck, the other Electric Water Smokers out there have nothing on a Cookshack, so it's hard to compare a work of art to a "cheap" version.
I would not suggest using a Smokette inside your apartment. Would set off the fire alarm and probably upset the neighbors.

You can use the Smokette outside in the winter. I have used mine when it was in the teens and snowing. Didn't affect the cook time at all. The Smokette is insulated with 1000 degree insulation, so the heat stays inside.

You can use an extention cord with the Smokette as long as it is a heavy duty one. I recommend at 12 gauge wire and if it is a very long cord 10 gauge.

Good luck.

Thanks for the advise. I am yet to experience the product of a CS. I'd really like to produce better Q than I am able to with a water smoker so a CS is certainly a strong consideration. I think it's a great idea that the CS is insulated, so it sounds like it would be no problem to use outdoors in the winter. Thanks Again!!!!!!!!!!
Not that they'll do it, but sometimes you can find someone on the forum in your area (have you notice the new version shows towns in the post) and Woodburner is in Plymouth MN and your in Little Canada. I don't know the area well but aren't they the same town? At the least email WB and get his input. He took a while to come around to the CS, but he's been a great addition to the forum.

Thanks Okie. Yes Plymouth is a Twin Cities 'burb like Little Canada. Good idea! I searched for Woodburner and the results came up with a person in Terrytown, NY. Maybe it's someone else. I'll watch for someone from the Twin Cities area.
On a seperate note, I have never really been excited about internet bulletin bds. but I have to say this board is just plain fun to read, and funny too. Kudos to the developer!!!!!!!!!
Okay, someone was from MN besides On Top of Old Smlky. Our server files have had some problems and we've actually had some problems with the profiles...that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Check member #52, Woodsmoke. They posted in the Owners Forum in a Topic "Sweet Ribs Recipe" maybe contact them?

We're working on the issue (that's why you can't post sometimes)

and now back to our regularly scheduled program.

I think Famous Daves does use CS, because I was able to sneak a peek into the kitchen area and saw a unit that looked alot like a commercial CS!!!!
I will try to contact woodsmoke. Mn. IS COLD. But it's SUMMER now and we're lovin' it. Time to kick back, relax and enjoy life!!!!!!

Tom,

Haven't been to Famous Dave's in 15 years. Remember it as good.

For those who haven't seen it, Famous Dave's has a cook book that is fabulous, in that it would make a nice coffee table book. The photography is superb. The recipes are good, too. We've tried a couple and like the results.

Only problem is that we haven't seen this book at Borders or Barnes & Noble. Perhaps they can order it? We ordered ours directly from Famous Dave's who directed us to another place.

That place is a charity. Most of the proceeds apparently go to charity.

Regards, Mike
Famous Dave's is having a special on their Qsauces. Their Rich & Sassy is a very good sauce. If you like Sweet Baby Ray's Hot, you would probably love this particular Famous Dave's. At 12 14oz for $25, it's decently priced.

And, yes, I like the CS sauce quite a bit, too.

Regards, Mike
