Hello,

Just found this forum and website. The unit looks great and I think I'll pull the trigger on one. A question I have is this. I now use a Traeger wood pellet grill that I purchased five years ago. While I like this unit it does have some drawbacks, the main thing being the ability to maintain a good temperature in a wind or low outside temperature. I've discussed this problem with the people at Traeger and have even suggested some ways to insulate the cooking box with fire bricks however they don't listen. Will this unit maintain a constant temperature in these conditions. Since I live in FL now it's not as big a problem as it was in NC but it's still a problem IMO. Email me with your answers since I doubt I'll be checking back here in the near future.

Thanks,

JET

Hey Jet,
I have had my model 50 for couple years now and have not had any problem with temp. We live on the Outer Banks of NC where there is plenty of wind and chill in the winter and it did just fine. I think you will really enjoy your purchase as I have! You might want to go for the model 50 or 55 over the smokette simply for the extra room and meat hanging ability. Service and product are 1st. Rate. Hope this helps.

Jet, the one thing to rmember about the cookshack is that it is not a stick burner. It does not keep a constant temp. Ther will be a flucuation in the cookers temp as the thermostat and heat element cycle. The temp setting is an average. There has been alot of previous discussion on this topic. You might want to do a search.

The one thing for sure is that it works.
Trust the cooker it knows what it is doing.

Thanks for the replies. I think there's a cook-off this weekend here and hopefully someone will be there with one of these units. To answer your question CB(with no reply to my question BTW) I just had stomach surgery and am going back in this week for more tests and surgery. Thanks for asking........

Hey Jet... sorry to hear about your medical problems. I'm in the process of trying to recover from a stroke so I have some appreciation of what you might be going through. The reason that I couldn't suggest an answere to your question is because I don't know diddly squat about pellet burners but I do know that there are plenty of experts on this forum that do. Collectively, with the benefit of reading each other's suggestions in this thread, they can probably answere the question for you but with private Email that resource is lost. Hope everything works out well Smiler
