Refurbishing an old 008

I bought a smokette 008 years ago and over the course of several moves it's a lot worse for wear. It didn't work for a few years so I ordered a replacement element last year and installed it. No luck. Other than a replacement thermostat are there any other parts and pieces that may be the culprit and are still available? Judging by the wiring schematic, it doesn't seem like a complex instrument.
