I am a new FEC 100 owner, and I have bought several bags of pellets. Today I opened one and poured it in the hopper, only to find that half of the bag was sawdust. How will that affect things. Do I need to just throw it all out?
I would not put the dust in. When you cook at high temps the dust might cause backburning in your hopper. I buy my pellets from Fast Eddie. They come in 40 pound bags and have next to nothing for dust.
Your pellets have been exposed to water. Look for a small hole in the bag. Easy to make if the bag is not handled gently. For storage after the bag is opened, I use the charcoal storage containers that Kingsford sells through stores like Lowe's.
It can easily clog the auger because it's susceptible to moisture. A lot of times, it will sit in the auger tray.
In some bags, I'll sometimes see up to a cup of sawdust, so I'm very careful when pouring them out. I try not to let the sawdust into the hopper. Then i just sift out the bottom of the bag and separate pellets from dust.
that's what i was afraid of. bought all my pellets from cookshack in ponca city, picked them up while driving thru, and it rained on us one night. that was an expensive lesson. thanks for the advise.
We will replace your bag of bad pellets. Please call 1-800-423-0698 and ask for Customer Service. Tell them that Donna said to ship you another bag of pellets to replace the one with the hole in the bag.
