Hi friends, I have a 2017 model SM045 and absolutely LOVE it for brisket, chicken, pork, and more.

Today the smoker is tripping the GFCI in the outlet after only rising 2-3 degrees.  I reset it several times, and it continued to trip after just a couple of minutes and a warming just a couple degrees between each time the GFCI trips.  I tried 4 other circuits between my shop, detached garage, house, and neighbor’s property - each of which had a GFCI that tripped just a couple minutes in.  Finally got it to run by connecting to a circuit without a GFCI and didn’t touch the smoker until I shut off the breaker.  (Meal was saved, yay).

Obviously that’s not a safe or sustainable way to operate the smoker - any recommendations on what to look at or parts that may need replacing?

thanks in advance

I run mine on a non-gfci outlet.  Always have.   When others have had this issue (loos like you covered all the bases by going to a neighbors house!), I suggest testing the outlet with a heat  producing device like a toaster or space heater and see what happens.  The only other advice is to have a service tech look for a ground fault in the smoker but I doubt one will be found.  Check with the folks at CS and see what they say.   Here is the wiring diagram:

It sounds like you're dealing with an electrical issue in your smoker. The fact that it trips the GFCI could point to a short or grounding problem, possibly with the power cord, heating element, or internal wiring. Check for any visible damage or moisture buildup, especially around electrical components, as that can cause the issue. If everything looks good on the surface, you might need to have a professional inspect the smoker to ensure there’s no deeper wiring problem. Using it on a non-GFCI circuit is unsafe, so it's best to resolve this sooner pizza tower
