Sorry this isn't a smoking question but was wondering if any members in LA know of a place that has smoked fish. A buddy of mine down there says he's looked hi and low and can't seem to find anywhere that has smoked fish. Hope I don't break any rules on this one but I figured if anybody would know it would be our smoking member's out in LA.

Seems that Barney Greengrass (yes, really) in Beverly Hills is 'the' place in L.A. And his selection will include more than just gravlax...

I "YELP"d the subject and found little results.

A Michel Blanchet is located in L.A. and ships his smoked fish to all the finest restaurants, though I don't know of a retail outlet specifically for his wares.

The challenge will be finding other than salmon, sturgeon, and an occasional smoked trout.

I happened into a shop that makes and smokes all its sausages on premises....hungarian recipes mostly: pork, head cheese, liver, blood, etc. Used to go there all the time when I worked nearer to the store, but hadn't been there in a few years.

AND I happened to notice a large selection of freshly smoked fish in their cold case. Even 'cold-smoked' salmon...and I thought I'd pass this along for your friend who is searching.

It's European Meat Sausages on Saticoy street just west of Coldwater Canyon in North Holllywood. (I thought the name was European Meat Specialties, but listing had it as sausages).

Tell your friend to go on in...it looks VERY scary from the outside, but inside he will find a very clean, pleasant, tiny 'old-school' grocery and since most all the meats are processed on premises, wow, what an aroma the place has; smoke, garlic, hungarian paprika ...goooood!!

Would love to hear what he thinks of the place.
