Ok, the dreaded temp differences seem to have caught up to me somehow as I didnt have them in the first few weeks of cooking.

I have a et 73 that constantly reads 50 degrees higher than my fec.

I have placed the probe as close to the fec one as I can and dont see much if any difference.

The fec keeps the temp (what it reads as the temp) pretty darn close to the set point, so thats not the issue.

Guess my question is how should I figure this out, as to which is right?

One more tidbit of info....if I take the et 73 out of the smoker and set both probes on the table, pretty soon they both read the same and it more or less matches the ambient temp.

I don't have an FEC, but my AQ has two probes. There's the fixed one that is mounted in the back wall, and there's the separate meat probe. Are you talking about a fixed probe in your FEC, or a meat probe?

Anyway, if the probe is removable, you might see if it and your et 73 (not sure what that is) measures boiling water the same. And if the FEC probe isn't removable, then test just the et 73 to see if it measures boiling water accurately.
Check a couple of things.

1. Placement of the racks. There are two sets of holes. If you use the wrong one, you might be putting the metal racks right next to the probe and it tends to give weird readings (not for everyone, but sometimes it shows up)

2. Make sure the probe on the inside is always kept clean and food isn't touching/near it
