This is surely not a first; but, I do not think I have seen the idea suggested before. For sometime, I have wrestled that membrane off the back of a slab of ribs. I had tried any and all ideas and not had much luck.

Then one day the "light came on" while thinking that this is worse than skinning catfish. I dug out my catfish skinners from the fishing bucket and peeled that ol' membrane right off and have been using them ever since with great ease.

P.S. I did get a new shinny pair that is kept just for rib skinn'.

I used to use needle-nose pliers. They make it easy to get the membrane "started" in the removal process.

However, I converted to the paper towel method about 6 months ago. It is almost as easy to get the membrane started with a knife, and then use the towell. My needlenose pliers are glad that I stopped using them for this, and they stay a lot cleaner!
I used to go from the end, but I did 12 racks for our Super Bowl party and what seemed to work best was getting a butter knife under the membrane around the middle of the slab and wiggling a finger between the ribs and the membrane and then pulling up on the membrane carefully and slowly until it peeled back. Worked very well on every one of those racks.
