I've had my FEC100 since October of 2004 and have not had any problems until today. The fire continued to smolder a long time after I had finished cooking. Reading the manual, it says to clean the ashes about every 60 hours. Are they talking about the ashes in the fire pot or that is on the bottom and around the burner itself? I change out the foil after each use but have never cleaned the fire pot itself. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you use the FE quite a bit, I would recommend that you clean the firepot about once a week. The easiest way to do this is get one of those 1 gallon wet/dry vacumes and suck out the fire pot. I have told friends that have just started using pellet burners that this vacume is a valuable tool. Use it on the bottom too.
Vaccuum the firebox, once it's completely cooled. While we do that, there is usually a bunch of loose ashes around the floor of the smoker and sometimes up the sides. It makes sense to run the vaccuum, we use a wet dry one, up there too.
While you do that, make sure you don't have any leftover grease, foil, meat. It's funny how you can have a pan of something just appear the next week that you thought was cleaned out the week before.
