Travelling over rough terrain

Hi Peggy,
Well if it was me, I think I would pass on it if you think you are going to tear something loose. If you thought you could drive real slow on the rough portion and not damage it, Go for it. It's a flip of the old coin...I'm not much help.

Is it to far away to drive to ahead of time to check it out?

Load up the hubby and take a ride.

That road sounds like our MN83; our rural roads are being neglected.

We took the ride and it about shook my teeth loose, but they say it will be paved and graded at the time of the festival. Jack wasn't really enthused about it. The people who went to the festival last year said the food vendors had people lined up because there were only 1 or 2 to choose from. I have to submit my entry soon, if I'm going to do it. Maybe we just won't do it. I don't want to make $500.00 and lose $20,000.
We're doing a lot of work on the trailer. It sure looks pretty. Jack was down there all day, cleaning, polishing, putting in a new exhaust pipe thing. We moved the SM and cleaned and polished behind the smokers. I learned more sailor language!

But....if you did this, how would you prepare your equipment for the bumpy ride? This is interesting to me. Would you pack styrofoam behind and around the elements? Duck tape the plumbling? What ideas?

The plumbing on ours is about 1 1/2" plastic compression fittings.

They have lossened before and had we messes after pulling the sink drains. We just keep an eye on those. The supply water to spigots is pvc glued, and hasn't been a problem.

We have taken many bumpy, hilly, gravel roads with ours, the worst part being the dust. Nearly half the roads in our rural area are gravel.

while doing all the above listed work i had a chance to look at the heating element in the sm150. figure 2 wood wedges would kill the vibrations which is my biggest concern. oh and since it is mother's day promised a re-trip down the road(after all the exterior stainless is polished) and an open mind (and a closed mouth). bout the best thing i can do.
as far as sailor language we all know that the proper application of specific words always makes stuck bolts loosen up

I think the wood shimms or styrofoam blocks for the elements would work fine. Just try to remember how CS shipped your smokers to you and do the same.

Heck, they might even send ya some of the packing they use if you ask real nice.

As for the plumbing, I think I would simply unscrew the drains and water lines from the tanks, and cap the water inlet & outlet holes until you got to the event. That way if the tanks did "jump" or shift on you during the ride they would not crack a line.

I feel more for your behinds & dental work than for your trailer though. I remember those graded roads from my days in South Georgia. They were all fine and dandy to drive on until the rain came.

as you can tell bear really wants to do this one. i have never stepped on her toes since we decided long ago what our duties were (she is front and lines up things and i am back and cook and tow and repair). unpacking our newest sm150 i don't remember any wedges but i am going to get with cookshack service on this. to be honest rain would smooth this road up. would rather fight a slide than the washboard. but darn it bear wants this one and i am doing my darnests to make it happen. by the way where is the new catalog??? if i do this one for her she owes me the j&w forged f. dick set!!!!!!!
hope you guys aren't as wet as indy but that seems to be working in my favor. got to go there to see my guadacanal and manila veteran seabee dad and mom has parkinson's so they can't travel anymore. sunday me and bear are going for bump day and that is the 1st time since 1969 that i have been to that and to be real honest peg and me are worn thin working 7 days a week for the last year and really need this. nice part was we passed our state's today with no sweat. sorry if i rambled thanks to everyone for helping us

Well Jack,

You and peggy bring some of that Florida sunshine with you. My garden has had about all the water it can handle. I'm starting to worry that my white 1/2 runners (hill billy green beans) are gonna mold in the ground before they sprout.
