Since I first got my FE-100 I have bought Traeger Pellets at their main plant at Mt. Angel, Oregon. Today I went there to reload for football season and found that they do not sell retail anymore. They have sent their customers to a local True Value Hardware store in Mt. Angel. They also do not have 40# bags anymore, just 20# bags. Two 20# bags cost me $15.95. Not a bad price.

I however bought all the Hickory pellets that they had, 17 20# bags total.

There is another source for pellets at Cascade Locks, Oregon , might have to visit them next time for a truck load.

I just bought 500 pounds of pellets from Candy Sue and IMHO they are much better then trager pellets. I cook every day on my FE for my catering and takeout and I can tell you they impart a much better flavor. This is evidently due to that trager uses a blend of Alder wood in there pellets. Pellets from Candy Sue are 100% pure wood no additives. I use mesquite for my brisket and Hickory for Ribs and Butts. And I can already taste a difference in the smoke . Her number is 877-275-9591.

That's good to know I'm sorry for being ignorant to that fact, I didn't mean to speak out of line there. I bought my first batch of pellets around the beginning of March and I may have gotten some of the other kind with the Alder. So I am sorry for giving any questionable input about Trager pellets. All that said, I got what I feel is a great product when I ordered from Candy Sue and she was great to talk to on the Phone. Ordered on Tuesday arrived on Friday to Pennsylvania. Great deal, great pellets, great service.

I got some Traeger pellets about 2 years ago, they've significantly broken down into smaller pieces and dust over time. When using these pellets, I saw the fan in the firepot blowing glowing pellet pieces out of the firepot onto the floor of the cooker. If there had been grease there, it could have been a grease fire. I also notice that the fire burns low in the firepot and agree with the post about the size of the pellets affecting the temperature swings. I just got some new pellets and don't have the same problems with the full sized pellets.
i have been using traeger for a couple years. yea, they have switched. much better product now. i cant believe your price! that is the great part of living so close, i guess. i pay 34.95 for that same 40 pound(2-20lb bags)
will someone tell me, is candy sue a better price, or how about bbqrs delight? just curious, and always trying to cut overhead.
cousin belly, hang on, we is coming your way.
my soninlaw just bought property up there, and as soon as we sell our rest here, we are moving
somewhere near the poconos.
Does anyone know what wood Traeger switched from alder to?
We've been well pleased with BBQer's Delight. The only time we got bad stuff from Candy was not her fault, but the fault of UPS for leaving the pellets on our back steps during a rain storm. She corrected the whole thing. Now the UPS guys know to put them under cover when they deliver. I really like the pecan. And I like oak. Pecan does wonders with chicken and turkey. I think the oak really makes a difference with the brisket and pork.
The orange works great with poultry or seafood, in my opinion. I just don't have the opinions of the public as we've not cooked with the orange for the public yet.

coffeebluffbbq hope to see you soon it's lonely up here. I am from what I have found the only one up here selling Q done the right way. I have a roadside location and I have had nothing but grand reviews from my customers. I have many regulars that work at local restaurants that get take out on a regular basis. I am new at the business but am learning something new everyday. I have been cooking off and on throughout my life but Q has always been my passion. This forum has helped me to no end. And I can honestly say that I would of ended up with another smoker if it wasn't for the wonderful people here that don't feel threatened to give away there hard learned knowledge. My Fe is exceptional and am always proud to show my customers how it works.
