If they are precooked,and you are just trying to add a little smoke,smoke at 225� until about 155�+.

But now that he is older and got all this spare time ,he might.

Yes, What Tom said. If this is a pre-cooked bird all you are doing is bringing it up to a good eating temp and adding some smoke. I certainly wouldn't brine it.
