What is this?

I think that someone posted about this before but I couldn't find it. The last few times I've used my 008, grayish-black drippings have fallen on the meet from the exhaust hole on top. I know what is causing it, but my question is how do I stop it. I don't think cleaning around the hole is going to stop it. Maybe a small wire brush after use? I don't know. Please help.
