I think you are correct, at least thats how i put mine in, thats the way it was from the factory, so i just keep it the smae way, seems to work fine, not sure it really matters to be honest, as long as the box isn't resting on the element...

got some ribs in as we speak, can't go outside, makes me hungry!!
VERY good question !! I have been putting it in where it touches the back of the smoker, S.O.P. with ALL other smokers, which would be the "flat end". If putting it in this way would it affect the way the wood burn's, not enough air flow ?? Just wondering because there is a post about the wood not charring or burning as it would in a 55 and not much smoke.
