Mrs. Bodkin and I just got home from our trip to Ames, Iowa and a visit with DrDic1 and his fiancee. The Doc and I did attend the Oklahoma Sooner and Iowa State Cyclone football game Saturday night. What a wonderfull atmosphere and great weather. As some of you will recall we had a friendly wager going. If the Sooners won DrDic had to prepare ribs and several side dishes. If the Cyclones won I had to reciprocate. DrDic was so confident that the Sooners would win that he paid up early (Friday night). He prepared fresh loin back ribs (none of the evil solution) on his grill. Twenty four hours prior to cooking he did a rub of marjoram, paprika, garlic, brown sugar, kosher salt and black pepper. He then prepared them low and slow. Periodically he threw on a chuck of cherry wood. After they were becoming tender he brushed them liberally with a mixture of Big Daddy'sBar-B-Q sauce (a new one to me) and Cabernet Savignon. He also prepared baked beans on the grill and his fiancee prepared a Chinese cole slaw salad. The ribs came out just like I like them, tender and pull nicely off the bone (not fall off the bone). I came away with a renewed respect for ribs done properly on the grill.

While I was happy that the Sooners won the game, more importantly two forum members had a wonderful time and some good food. As we passed through the tail gate area on our way to the game with all the smells, we both wondered what it would smell like if we had a section of 20 or 30 CS forum members involved.

Best wishes and happy smoking,

Bill
