drop one or two well lit charcoal bricketts in the fire pit and turn it on.
with my ingnighter out i have found this tobe an easy way to do it when i have some charcoal burning.
anyone ever do this?

Blow torch is quicker and more fun. 
CHARCOAL? What kind of pellet cooker are you?
A squirt of Hand sanitizer and a lighter will fire it up as well. Best alternative at a comp where you would have to depend on inverter to cook. Save the igniter amps.

If your fire goes out because you opened the hopper and forgot to close it again... (no that didn't happen last weekend at MWC

I used a little gel to get things running, but Stuart filled me in on this little trick... Uh I mean "If this had happened to me...."

If it is at a comp, the meat HAS to be off the cooker if the igniter is on...just sayin'!!!
Seems like there was a ruling that this was not the case... If i remember right the rule was the ignitor raised the temp in the cooker less than 1-2 degrees or something so they ruled it was OK to use the ignitor... I may be spewing wrongness, but I know I read that somewhere. I'll scour the KCBS site for something on that.

Not sure where you read that, but I'd email KCBS and get an official ruling. It's always been that the ignitor couldn't come on if meat is in the smoker (but that doesn't mean they havent changed their mine)
