I was in a restaraunt supply store this weekend and found a low cost substitute for the cookshack seafood grates. They had 14"x14" grates for use in the bottom of serving trays used in steam tables for fried items. They have about a 1/4" grid and are made of heavy chrome plated steel. I paid about $7 each for them vs. the $40+ for the cookshacks set of 3. They fit perfect and worked great!

Richard - got a brand name on these? or maybe where you got them? Are they a common restaurant item?

FWIW, the local Meijer grocery/general merch had expanded aluminum "grill toppers", about 8" x 6" with a slightly raised edge, marketed as semi-disposable for about $1. They'd be great for doing a few mushrooms or tomatoes on the same rack as a big hunk of meat.
I believe that they are a standard item. They were with all of the steam table inserts (the stainless steel inserts that they use in cafeteria serving lines, etc.). There was no brand name on them, just a price sticker. These would be significantly better than a "semi-desposable". One of the professional chefs in the forum might know an online source for them. I used them for some chili smoked almonds this weekend (they were addictive).
Good luck,
Richard
OK, I'll check this week at my local Dine Company to see if they have such. Did you find them at a regional restaurant supply chain or a local one? If regional, which one - maybe there's an outlet here?

That could be a new topic - shopping at restaurant supply/food wholesalers for home cooks. My current favorite is Gordon Food Service. They have stores called GFS Marketplaces geared towards small caterers & home partiers that have everything you need to serve a convincing school lunch at home!
Hi, guys,

We try allow as much freedom of discussion as possible on the forum. It becomes a little tricky when people post about products which are in direct competition with the products which the forum's sponsoring company, Cookshack, sells. I won't tell you not to do it, but I would suggest that you think it over before you try to drive sales away from Cookshack. We are doing the best we can to provide a positive experience for you, and would appreciate the same consideration.

If you don't agree and wish to complain, please email me privately. This is a policy issue and not something to be discussed in the forum.

Thanks.

Hi Donna,

Have seen the "competition" seafood racks. They are worth the price they are selling at. In no way do they compare with the Cookshack seafood racks. I'd much prefer to buy more of yours at whatever price than to use the abovementioned racks for gratis.
