i setup my two 8# pork butts in my AQ to start cooking at midnight at 185F for 12 hours. i was planning on plugging in the probe when i woke up this morning and bumping the temperature to 225 so that i reached the 195F region ~ noon today.
much to my surprise, when i woke up this morning at 7AM, my pair of ET-732 probes were reading 216F (which is over the set oven temperature). when i checked the AQ, the controller was reading 473F for the oven temp!!
the butts seem a little crispy on the outside, but did probe just fine. (just like butter!)
my display went on the fritz yesterday when i did a short 90 minute smoke of some pecans. (the display went totally blank when i was adjusting the time after i had preheated to 225F. pulling the controller and drying it out w/ a hair dryer seem to have sorted it out to working condition for the 90 minute smoke)
i'm set to starting cooking some SL spares at ~ 11AM for this afternoon's party.
i'm thinking that i should FTC the crispy butts and do a temperature test for a couple of hours with a pan of water in the AQ to see if the controller is holding temperature. (i hoping that a grease fire caused the high temp of 473F, although the AQ does seem to be draining well into the pan)
any suggestions since i won't be able to contact CS til tuesday??
