It was hickory and lump "real" charcoal. I find that I burn about 50-70% charcoal. The briquettes have so much filler in them they would fill the box with ash. I love the natural stuff.

Thanks for the kind words. The barrel is from an old air compressor. The firebox is 1/4" plate.

She's a beauty! I'll probably have to fire mine up once in a while for old times sake, but I sure like the CS for "set it and forget it". Ribs aren't too bad but those all night briskets were a pain. You have a CS too don't you?

Bought a Smokette about a month ago. True, it is as close to "set and forget" bbq as we'll ever see.

I think for the 4th of Julys and Labor Day type celebrations, the big heavy black beast will always be fired up. Something about sitting around with neighbors and friends, enjoying a few biers and tending a smoker... it will never die.
