Best books

David A: Two of my favorite books are:
Smoke & Spice by Cheryl Alters Jamison and Bill Jaminson

and Paul Kirk's Championship Barbecue Sauces.

Also if you do a search, I beleive that favorite books has been discussed several time with a list made somewhere.

Best reading and variety, I would suggest SmokinOkie's BBQ Guide , the Cookshack Forum Archieves and the Favorite Recipes section. I also highly recommend MainelyDave's website These links will get you through more than just the basics, IMO. I'm sure there are real "published" books out there. These are free and top-notch! A little biased I guess...?

Do a search on "books" and you'll see several good threads where we list a lot of books.

Kind of depends on topic, you can go general or specific.

Like Greyn, I recommend Paul's book if you want to make your own rubs/sauces.

I can't disagree with the enjoyability of the books above.

Wheelz has a great post and you can probably find more that pertains to you,than all the others combined.

Went to books a million 2 weeks ago & bought Dr.BBQ'S Big-Time barbecue cookbook,& Paul Kirks championship barbecue.I already had Steven Raichlen's BBQ USA,Smoke & Spice by Cheryl Alters Jamison & Bill Jamison,The ultimate Barbecue Sauce cookbook By Jim Auchmutey & Susan Puckett,Barbecue Bible-sauces rubs and marinades by Steven Raichlen,How to grill by Steven Raichlen,Barbecue America Rick Browne & Jack Bettridge,just to name a few.

The only "got" to have for me would be Paul's book on sauces and rubs. You're in Italy, what better time to experiment, you can certainly get good ingredients I would think.

The others are all...different. A lot of them a recipe books, not really technique books. Give me an idea of what you might be wanting to learn, we can steer you that way.

Well not sure...I am somewhere between recipe and technique. I still rely on recipes but want to learn more about making my own. Also blending of woods, temps. etc. Yes you are right, LOTS of good info on this forum. just always looking for more.

Be aware that we all enjoy Jamison's books for the recipes and stories,but the cooking times are way to short.
