I've got a ton of it left from the wood sampler, but i'd like to get the pieces down to smaller sizes than what i have remaining - most of them are around 2.5+ ounces and if i could cut them in half it would give me more flexibility. whats the best way to accomplish this? Im not much of a powertool guy... band saw? Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks.

A bandsaw is your best bet, if you are in it for the long haul. Otherwise it would be cost prohibitive. It makes bringing those pieces of wood to the size you want in short order. I use the wood from my woodshop all the time: oak, cherry, maple, etc. Works for me.

Yah, me too.. I just use a cheap hatchet and wack the back of it with a brass hammer.

However, when I'm really cutting wood.. ie, a branch of oak or alder, I use the bandsaw and cut slabs that are about 1 oz each (dry)

However(2).. this ain't rocket science. When I first started, I weighed the wood to the 1/2 oz.. now, I just eyeball it.. knowing about what a chunk weighs. In fact, if there is any unburned (not ash) left from the prior smoke.. that stays in the hopper and I still add the normal amount to that.

I've not been able to tell the difference from one smoke to the other using this method.
