I think you'll find that not a lot of the folks here have much experience with eggs, and that's why I referred you to the egg forums.

drbbq is their national cooking rep,Jim Minion has a Kamoda,I believe.

BobbiQue,over in Tampa area, has one.

Their owners are very fond of them and they have a very active forum.

They work well in cold, windy, wet climates.

They can be pretty expensive ,when you get a good sized one,and they are not real mobile.

There are some problems with breakage, but they seem to work with it.

Since you have a smoker, many folks would suggest you stick with the kettle.

Hope this helps a little.
d9, Very little is "off limits' here as long as it pertains to BBQ. If that's the case Smokin will zap it in a heartbeat.

I think your question is valid yet as Tom said, not many of us use a BGE, a very expensive unit for grilling. I'll stick to my El Cheap-O Mecco grill for steaks and burgers as it suits the Mrs. and me well. And, if it gives me trouble or as you stated, rust becomes a problem, I can replace it for $40.00.

Good luck to you...
Hey Tom, I grew up a military brat. We lived in Japan and Okinawa while my dad was flying B-52s in Vietnam. When we came back to the states (I was just a young kid, mind you) my dad brought a Kamoda with us. He didn't really know how to use it except for grilling steaks on it. It was on castors and one day one of us kids rolled it off the patio and broke it.

Funny how popular and spendy they are now. But back then it was just a funny looking, cheap grill.
Dave,

Usually when posts don't get replies, no one has anything to say. Guess there just aren't many BGE owners here.

I've heard variations of good and bad so since I don't own one, I kept my mouth shut.

I'd just go to those forums and read and like the CS forum, you'll see positive and negative comments and then those owners can help.

One site that lists Tom's site and a few more, all about Ceramic cookers:

Ceramic Smokers Info list

Hope that helps.

Can't comment on the performance of the BGE since I don't have one. Not for a lack of trying however.

A few years ago I decided to get a BGE. A couple of weeks afer I placed my order directly with the factory, the BGE arrived. Had the shippers put it my garage and uncrated it a couple of hours later only to find a large crack on the ceramic body. Contacted the factory and they arranged for a pickup and replacement. When the replacement arrived I held the shippers and uncrated it while they were in my driveway. Sure enough - another cracked one. I refused delivery and the shippers took it back. The company said they would send another unit and when it arrived - same as the first 2. At this point, I figured 3 strikes and you're out. Had the company issue a credit to my credit card and moved on eggless.

Most people that I know that have BGEs love them but a number of people who are more familiar with the company than I am have mentioned that my "cracked on arrival" syndrome is not uncommon.
d9,I just sold my Grill Dome which is just like A green egg,to my brother(he wanted it more than I did)because to me they do not do beef as well as a CS.I bought a CS 009 at first, I loved it.I sold it to a friend of mine that wanted it,(I wanted a bigger smoker for the number of family members that I smoke for around the holidays)so I bought a CS 55,& I am very pleased with it.If I was gonna purchase another egg type smoker,I would'nt think of any other brand than another Grill Dome.but I am very pleased with my CS & the way that the end product taste & the great customer service.I personally do not want anything else.hope this helps.

Richard
