Zeb just made me thing that we need to start a thread on who will be coming to the KCBS contest in Tryon, NC on June 10-11. FireHouseBBQ will be there in full force with Craig, Tom, Barbara, myself and possible even Craig's Dad.

Craig gets out of hand sometimes when we even get close to Lynchburg and his dad helps us keep him in line. Actually, it is geat to have him join us.

FireHouseBBQ will be in Tryon either late on Thursday or first thing Friday morning. It will be great to see everyone!

Tryon NC is just over the NC line heading west on I25 from Spartanburg. This is KP's backyard!

There are usually 80-90 teams at the contest with a significant purse. Plus it is one of five grandfathered KCBS contest where whole hog is allowed as a substitute category for pork butt or shoulder. From what I hear, they have 30 teams entries in the whole hog category this year which is fantastic.

BTW, this contest was voted the best contest in the states a few years ago.

Come on down Russ, we will show you a great time!

Blue Ridge BBQ Festival Blue Ridge is a Biggy. It is rates one of the top 5 events in the country and it is also deemed, by our Governor, as the official State Championship. We would like to win the Gov's trophy(awarded to the top placing team from the state.) It should be a blast. We were going to compete last year but we took my daughter off-shore fishing the week before so we did not. We were there, however.
We feel REAL confident with our food---it is all the particulars that we are not sure of. My wife thinks that we will place in atleast 2 catagories--she is pretty intuitive. We have also been visited by a few judges(not sure they will be judging there) and some of the other competitors and have been told that we stand a real shot in those 2 catagories--we'll see. As long as I am happy with what we turn in--I'll be satisfied. We look forward to meeting everyone and having a good time. We will be there Thursday evening--it is only 20 minutes down the road Big Grin
See you there!

John sounds like a great contest. Maybe I can plan it next year (if we decided to do contests next year, it will be time to get an RV and do some traveling)

Zeb, good luck. Interested in what you think your good categories are. Ribs and Pork probably, I've seen photos of some of your stuff.

Have a great event and make sure to hook up with Firehouse.
I just went up to Tryon to check out the new cook site place. Some of the sites will be very nice with no sun being under shade trees . Looks like plenty of power and water for everyone. They have a new lay out hopefully it will user freindly if it don`t rain , some spots could be messy . Talked to one of the yard helpers and said as of now they have 78 teams signed up .See ya Thurs early only 35 minutes from the house .
Well I am getting ready for this one. I think it is one of the best contests out there. I love the area and the blue grass music that comes with it. I also like that white stuff in the bottle that I have seen in the past.... Well I just picked up the new trailer today and will hope to have it set up half way with the two pellet cookers by Tue. We will see everyone there. Be sure to stop in and say hello.

Side note, I have to laugh. Tom and I have been talking about chicken for weeks and comparing notes and we BOTH took first in Chicken this week. Tom, thanks for the help!
Congrats to all that placed in the 82 pro team contest at Tryon .We KP Cowboy Cookers manadged to get 14th overall . Graig at Firehouse BBQ did a great job with 1st in Chicken and ended up 13th overall .Whoop De Que smoked the field with GC , good job Troy .BS Pitmeister got 9th in Ribs and Lazy Bones took 3rd in Brisket with their FEC 100 . The main thing is we all had fun .
Most know, but Troy/Whoop-de-Que cooks on his FEC for that Grand and a 1st in Ribs.

Not sure where Lazy Bones finished overall, but Charles/BS Pitmeister was 20th overall on the FEC.

I'm sure we'll all have more to add, when we recover.

Many of ya'll have seen Blind Dog and his Outlaw Cookers on TV with their special built rig from the Food network.

He is also cooking on an FEC.

It was a great contest this year. We had alittle rain on Fri night, but other than that it was nice. They had some real good bands from what we could hear. They had a new spot for the cookers and you needed a golf cart or a good pair of running shoes to see any thing. We did place in chicken which was a great feeling, 13th in Pork which I thought tasted better than that but there were some great cooks there. It anyone gets a chance check out this event next year it is a good contest with some great talant. It was a big learner for us I know we have learned alittle more from this event on what not to do. It was great to meet some new folks. congrats to Troy on a great win. We will see you guys down the road.
