Although I realize Bradford Pear is not actually a fruit bearing tree, I lost one last week in a wind storm. Has anyone ever tried? Also, if I get fresh wood, how long should it be aged before smokeable?

I've never cooked with Bradford,but know folks that have cooked with their fruit bearing pear trees.
Seems like they cut and stack for about six months.
PEAR - A nice subtle smoke flavor. Much like apple. Excellent with chicken and pork.

If smoking in a CS, you could probably just hack off a chunk and use it without worrying about drying. Just cut off a piece of a branch around broom handle size - if it's been down for a week or so, it should be plenty dry.
tjr, I disagree very much. I would worry about the sap ruining the heating element.
