Call to suggest Forum improvements

We computer challenged folks especially appreciate that last part.

I would like to suggest that the system have the capability of printing out a "printable version" of the topic or thread in black ink. Many of us like to archive topics in notebooks for furture reference. In the current format, you just dictate the support of the outragiously expensive ink jet cartridge industry particularly with the use of color text or images.

..as long as the printed version gives credit to the "author/s".

FYI.

As I'm redoing my 101's, I'm making PDF versions for just that reason.

How about some new folders in the open forum like

• Cooking with subitems
  
  
  
  • Beef
    
  • Pork
    
  • Poultry
    
  • Fish
    
  • Jerky & Sausage
    
  • Ribs
    
  • etc.
    
  • Other
    
  
  
  
• Restaurants
  
• Contests
  
• Equipment & Suppliers

Of course, that's an invitation to more problems with posting to the wrong folder, but that's another story.

Ray B has instituted a" frequent recipe search file" that he is asking a tryout on,to see if it can handle the volume.
Smokin' can find it over there.


This might be a good stopgap,'til Smokin' retires and devotes hisself to doin' 101s.

I have been around a fire or two and ChrisA's forum has IMHO always been considered the class of the Q network.

With your help,Smokin' has moved us onto that same plain.

If you go to the other sites on the Smokering,this forum and Smokin' have achieved much that same respect.

I'm not smart enough to ask good questions,but I can appreciate you are definitely setting the bar high.

I would like to see a posting of who is logged on the forum.To print a posting I just cut and paste to note pad to make it printable.

I'd like all the people to post in the right place....sorry, bad humor from the moderator, I don't care. If you post in the wrong place I won't have anything to do.

As far as more forums, we've gone that route, and it was hard for people to find their posts, but I'm open to other ideas.

Now, my input (see I do this for free)

• I liked the old forum with HTML pages that made for better "saving" by visitors
  
  
• I liked it when we had a weekly chat
  
  
• IM. Having a listing of those online now would be great, if we could all "go" to a room and chat when necessary, about Q, of course
  
  
• More contests (to bring out the lurkers)
  
  
• More photos, photos, photos.
  
  
• Better Search. I'd like to be able to create some "pre-formatted" searches for visitors to use
  
  
• Better opening page. The archive stuff could be moved to an archive page (with a search function there to help) thus leaving more room to the Active Forums
  
  
• No more 101's......those are MINE
  
  
• More members who don't lurk, but post! Come on, I won't bite, really
  
  
• Don't change the atmosphere of the forum...to many forums SUCK because of the attitude, but not this one. Ya'll are G-R-E-A-T

A preview function would be real useful so one could see what the message is going to look like when posted BEFORE actually posting it. This would allow editing and formatting without posting the message each time.

I would like an automatic spell checker. Like on my email when I hit send it checks my spelling. Because I rarely put one out that dosen't have errors.

Definitely a better search engine!

BTW, to save the cost of colored ink, I cut and paste into notepad or Word and change the font color to black.

The spell check is a good idea as well as preview.

All in all, the forum is really good as is. It'll be nice, though, to have the sections back again so we can post on specific subjects.
