cedar smoking? | Cookshack

I'm thinking about smoking salmon this weekend and have a few cedar planks lying around...is cedar a good wood to smoke fish? I always read about apple and alder but not cedar. Thanks everyone

I have heard of peope smoking salmon "on" cedar planks but DO NOT use the cedar or any other conifer (evergreen) as your smoking wood. Could end up one sick puppy. As Mr. Tom suggested, do a search and see what other say about plank smoking salmon.

Cooking Salmon on cedar planks on a charcoal cooker is great. You have to soak the cedar for about an hour . It would not be good in a smoker.
