Chimney/Smokestack for Patio Use

A lot of folks do, and I may at some time in the future. I live in Wichita Falls Tx, and we get almost constant wind. I just try to position it to where the hopper side is facing the wind.

If I'm cooking on the ramp of my trailer and using both FECs, I don't have that option, but I still haven't noticed any real difference in cook times or had any problem holding temp.

If it's windy, probably good to put a vent cap over it. Too much air back into the smoker can blow stuff around and add more oxygen to the fire. But I only do that on windy days. I take it off.

Keep in mind, you don't want to restrict the airflow, so don't cap it.

I put an elbow on mine for a different reason. I hate smoke in my face. so with a cheap elbow I can divert the smoke behind the unit

the next time you're at home depot or lowes, just pick one up- mine was like $9, I think. I got the one that is 2 90deg joints together so I could adjust it however I wanted. turns out I just set it at 90 and angles to vent behind the unit.

My trip to Lowes was a let down. They have 4in 6in and 8in,but no 5in in stock. They did recommend I go to an A/C company and they could fab anything I need. That got me to thinking. If I mount my FE100 in my box truck and use insulated pipe then it will work inside. I don't think it will create a lot of heat in the truck either. I may even box in the bottom and draw air from outside through vents. What do ya'll think?

I got my pipes from a small hardware store. The old fashion type, not like a lowes. It is a stove pipe styles. Black. Didn't cost much.

Thanks, I'm going to try some places like that before I go to "custom fab". The cost will be better if its inside and I won't have to build a special rear bumper to carry it to comps.

I found 5" at the local Home Depot. I got two elbows that adjust up to 90˚, two 24" pipe sections, and two rain caps for $34.58 including tax.
