Chunk vs pellet

I do have both the 066 and the AMNPS.
Reading between the lines, I gather you are inquiring about the purchase of a AMNPS.
As to the production of smoke, it comes down to surface area of the fuel being used. After many experiments with the PS the following was found. Using chunks, the A/Q will produce a much denser smoke than the PS although it will be for a shorter amount of time depending on the amount of pellets used. Due to the lack of ventilation, the PS will not burn as one would hope without the aid of a small aquarium air pump with the hose inserted in the A/Q drain hole. I have other smokers that have more ventilation and the PS works just fine for those very long smokes. The type of pellets makes a great deal of a difference also. The pellets that are supplied through AMPS work best which must be due to the difference in production methods. AS to whether the PS will work in the AQ, it will but be prepared for a struggle. Keep in mind that this is being used at a 2300 ft elevation. If you are at a lower elevation, your results may be more favorable.

I actually already have an AMPS but have the new AMAZEN Tube on the way. It is supposed to be able to stay lit without going out.

I am just curious if you can get the same smoke flavor as burning wood, with burning pellets in the AMPS. I know that pellet smokers burn the pellets very efficiently which causes the pellets to only produce a certain amount of smoke. The smoke it produces leaves behind a subtle hint of smoke on your food. Now with using an electric smoker and wood chunks, you can get a VERY pronounced smoke flavor on your food, and possibly even oversmoke it (which I have done on a tri-tip already).

What I am curious about is if pellets are burning inefficiently(which is how they do in the AMPS) can this thing put out the same heavy smoke flavor as an electric/wood chunks?

I am waiting on the new tube since my AMPS has a problem with staying lit. The new tube is supposed to solve that problem and has gotten great reviews so far.

I have not been able to get the same amount of smoke from the PS. The primary reason I got the PS is to use in my 22 cubic ft smoker. In my opinion, it's light & long smokes will be ideal for curing hams this fall.
Let us know how your tube smoker works out. Seems like I have everything else, may want one of those also.
